The Great Christmas Tree Hunt!

This past Saturday we all loaded into our truck and drove down past Colorado Springs to cut down a Christmas tree. We went with some friends of ours who were familiar with the area and had a great (but freezing cold) day. We got to drive through the Garden of the Gods and we hunted for a tree just past there. We had to hike in a bit and the kids did really well. Halie and Cayden had a bit of a challenge walking in all the winter clothing, but they did okay. Halie realized that it's much more fun to make snow angels with snow pants on, and we had to carry Cayden most of the time, since there was a lot of uphill hiking, but he was happiest when we put him down to attempt to walk by himself. Very, very entertaining to watch him walk so bundled up, and he thought it was pretty cool, too.
After we chose our tree, the girls and Cayden went back to the cars to wait for the boys. Jon made mulling spices that morning before we left, so we had a great warm drink and the little girls went sledding. We left at about 4, which was a good thing because that hour and a half drive ended up taking more like 4 hours on the way home. It was snowing like crazy! And after all of that, we got the tree home and decided we liked our fake one better, so we put the ornaments on that one! But, we did keep the real one in the toy room with some lights on it. After all, it wasn't about getting a great tree. It was about creating a memory, and we definitely did that!

Halie LOVED sledding!

Here come the boys, dragging one of the trees!

Cayden had one tough day! All he needs is his blankie and thumb!

What adorable kids you have! Even their snow clothes are very stylish. I had to laugh that you used your artificial tree instead. :)
